Course Description

The number of organ donations after circulatory death continues to grow in the United States and worldwide but is yet to be accepted universally as a viable option to serve our patients on the transplant waiting list. This summit will identify and share effective practices on all aspects of organ donation after circulatory death (DCD) including logistics, outcomes, innovations and ethical challenges.

Objectives

  • To describe current trends in DCD utilization and outcomes from transplant center and OPO perspectives
  • To identify global innovations in organ preservation, examine the latest concepts in liver perfusion devices, and the implementation in clinical practice
  • To examine logistics at the transplant center and OPO level for building a program by effectively using DCD organs
  • To consider ethical perspectives in DCD donation
  • To produce consensus on best practices in DCD procurement, allocation and utilization
